The conference will have a focus on the topic of integrated sustainable energy resources in arid regions. Due to the increasing energy demand and increase in population, the human race is at the threshold of severe energy shortages in the near future. Non-renewable resources of the Earth are fast depleting and hence search for integrated sustainable energy resources and technologies provide a symbol of hope for the future.

This event is an international dialogue between scientists and practitioners involved in global, regional and sub-regional sustainable development activities. The dialogue aims to radically increase the quantity and effectiveness of collaborations on sustainable development pursued around the world. The dialogue also aims to enhance the world's capacity to establish and implement such activities.

The summit has provided a credible platform for deliberation and dialogue on long-term sustainable development. Discussions among participants from the corporate sector, governments, international agencies and institutes result in a comprehensive framework for practical and workable strategies to take the sustainable development agenda forward.

The Atlas of Ideas is an 18-month study of science and innovation in China, India and South Korea, focusing on new opportunities for collaboration with the UK and Europe. The final report is planned to be launched at an international conference in London.

The workshop is aimed at journalists covering health issues in Commonwealth countries of Africa. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the latest developments on the avian influenza threat, improve reporting skills and share experiences in covering bird flu issues.
