About Us
DISA Vascular (Pty) Ltd, established in 1988, is a medical device company, based in Cape Town, which develops coronary stents for the treatment of coronary and peripheral artery disease.
The company has developed a novel drug eluting stent, the Stellium based on their currently successful ChromoFlex stent.
Services and Products
In spite of the proven clinical benefits of stenting, the implementation of a stent causes injury to the vascular wall. The subsequent wound healing response can result in restenosis, an over proliferation of scar tissue, which can re-occlude the stented vessel. DISA Vascular's Stellium coronary stent elutes tiny quantities of drug from the surface of the stent in order to slow this cellular response and slow down restenosis.
DISA Vascular has an intensive research and development process and has produced two coronary stents:
- S-Flex Stent - high performance, stainless steel stent.
- ChromoFlex Stent - an advanced, cobalt chromium stent, which is currenlty marketed and released by DISA Vascular as a non drug eluting stent.
DISA Vascular has combined the ChromoFlex Stent with an erodible drug-delivery polymer coating (licensed from a German company), for the elution of Paclitaxel (Taxol) from the stent surface. The polymer has the ability to dissolve in a controlled manner over approximately six weeks and Paclitaxel has been proven to prevent restenosis.
